Canton Locks in 2024 General Fund Budget

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – While you were celebrating Easter and the Solar Eclipse, the city of Canton locked in their 2024 general fund budget.

$74.7 million is anticipated to be available to spend this year.

68-percent of that amount will be going to safety forces, says Mayor Bill Sherer.

That’s $22.2 million for the police department and $20.7 million for fire.

Crime lab expenses are $637,000, but that figure represents just wages and benefits.

The water department budget is up, about $5 million from last year.

Sherer says that’s because of improvements being made at the Harrisburg Road NE facilities.
