AKRON (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – With the collegiate athletic season right around the corner, one area hospital is gearing up to keep all athletes healthy, even those who compete on a computer screen.

The Cleveland Clinic has been named the medical provider for Akron ESports, an online gaming team formed last year that has over 40 members. Athletes on the Akron team will be a part of a collaborative research effort between UA and Cleveland Clinic Sports Health which aims to outline the effective and comprehensive care for those who compete in ESports.

Doctors say ESports gamers have been connected with frequent eye fatigue along with wrist, hand, neck and back pain. One of the goals of the study is to prevent these “repetitive-use” injuries.
