Planting Season Tips to Keep Farmers Safe

COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – For farmers in the area, it’s planting season.

That means all of us need to keep our eyes out for more slow-moving equipment on rural roads.

Nationwide Insurance risk management expert and farmer Derrick Hommer says farmers can help by making sure flashing lights on all that equipment is working and that lenses are clean.

And make sure that reflective tape is in place.

For the safety of farmers, Hommer says have a cell phone in the cab and wear the seat belt.

Hommer says fatigue can sometimes be a contributing factor to farming accidents.

He says farmers also want to double check chemicals, and communicate back “home” on a regular basis.
