(ONN) – The family of an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper critically hurt in a fiery wrong-way crash has released a statement of gratitude.

Trooper Jason Phillips was involved in a collision with a suspected drunk driver that left him in critical condition.

The crash happened at around 2:40 on the morning of June 27th on Interstate 71 near Mount Gilead, about 25 miles southwest of Mansfield.

His family said quote “we cannot express how grateful we are for the outpouring of concern and support for Jason.”

“Your kind words, thoughts, prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery are appreciated by those of us who know and love Jason.”

Phillips is 23-years-old, and among the youngest troopers in the state.

The Ohio Going Blue Facebook page on Tuesday said Phillips remains in critical but stable condition, and that a benefit account has been set up for the trooper.
