Canton Representatives Argued in Columbus Against State School Takeovers

Canton City School District Board of Education vice president and legislative liaison Eric Resnick, Canton City School District teacher Spencer Geraghty, and Canton Professional Educators Association president Paul Palomba were guests on the Gary Rivers Show Friday morning to talk about the state’s practive of school district takeovers.

Canton school board member Eric Resnick says the state has failed to improve results for students and taken control from locally elected leaders.

House Bill 70 passed overnight in 2015 as an attachment to a bill. It allowed a state takeover of a district with three consecutive report cards that failed to meet state standards.  A new bill, to stop the takeovers, recently passed in the House, but has yet to move onto the Senate
