Bob Evans Shooting Suspect Arrested Near East Canton

CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The 54-year-old Canton man accused of walking into a Canton Bob Evans restaurant and shooting a waitress to death was arrested Friday night.

Richard Nelson was picked up following a reported foot pursuit on Route 30 between East Canton and Robertsville.

Canton police, the U.S. Marshal Service and sheriff’s deputies made the arrest.

Nelson is charged with aggravated murder for walking into the Lesh Street NE Bob Evans off Route 62 and shooting 38-year-old Rebecca Rogers of Massillon several times in a rear hallway.

Later, she died at the hospital.

The two had apparently been in a relationship recently.

No one else was injured.

According to 911 calls placed from the restaurant, customers ran for the front door when they heard the gunshots.

Waitresses and cooks hid underneath tables, fearing for their lives.
